Project Chaiwala has opened its first outlet in the heart of Dubai’s edgy art district; Al Serkal Avenue. Inspired by tea culture around the world; from karak stops in Bur Dubai to clay kulhar cups in vibrant Delhi markets, Project Chaiwala is here to deliver a unique yet genuine take on chai.
“It was always our goal to have a physical outlet when we first began this adventure over a year ago,” said Justin Joseph, Co-founder, Project Chaiwala. “We did however want to ensure that our first flagship outlet was one that was authentic and synergised with our core values – Cinema Akil in Al Serkal Avenue proved to be just right.”
Project Chaiwala’s story began well over two years ago with Founders Justin Joseph and Ahmed Kazim; up and coming financial executives in the Dubai’s bustling financial nerve centre DIFC. Dealing with hectic schedules and the never ending client meetings – their only respite during the day was a ‘chai’ break – affording them an opportunity to take a step back, relax and recharge. It was during these breaks that they identified a gap in the market and Project Chaiwala was born.
“We realised quite quickly that authentic and quality chai was hard to come by,” said Ahmed Kazim, Co-founder Project Chaiwala. “And so we began with trips to Indian tea gardens, sampling the local offerings here in Dubai to finally conceptualizing an initial menu idea that was vetted and perfected over the course of the year to what you see in our store today.”
Fast forward 24 months, Project Chaiwala has opened its flagship store in Al Serkal; bringing the vision of a welcoming, neighbourhood Chai Diner to life. Today the outlet boasts everything from the traditional ‘Karak’ to their now famous ‘PCW Signature’ as well as a ‘Matcha’ and ‘Signature Frappe’ offering for the more discerning customer.
In addition to their range hot and cold beverages the partners have also developed and extensive food offering that ranges from salads and light bites to the more filling and wholesome wraps as well as a modern take on some classics like the Samosa aka Smashmosa.
Project Chaiwala is dedicated to create a positive social impact and that is a core foundation of the concept. It is consistently seeking to collaborate with socially conscious suppliers and indirectly contribute to the communities that form part of the supply chain ecosystem such as the tea pickers and their families. Make sure to order your chai in the traditional clay cup custom made for Project Chaiwala by a social enterprise that is focused on empowering women who make them. As it grows, it looks to create long standing partnerships with social enterprises and charities such as Dubai Cares to contribute directly to initiatives aligned with its values.
“As Dubai’s winter approaches, we invite everyone to come on down to our store in Cinema Akil, Al Serkal Avenue and grab a movie or a chai or both and let us take you through the best chai experience around,” concluded Kazim.
Project Chaiwala is located in Cinema Akil, Warehouse G 68 , Al Serkal Avenue, Al Quoz 1, Dubai, U.A.E. You can also follow them on Facebook or Instagram for all of the latest updates.
